I’m sure this photo would qualify for a “Stupid Human Trick” but have no information about the accident. A friend from Belgium sent this photo to me and he has no information either. If anyone out there knows what happened, I would kike to read the account.

http://home.velocitus.net/atlatlist/003.jpg

The boat is a Missouri registration.
From the era of the boats, possibly Lake of the Ozarks.

That is a unique way to store the tender. :)

Ouch! Nasty looking prang... could easily happen over here with huge numbers of new boaties coming in and the prevailing "we know better" attitude of our increasingly affluent society. Nearly "worn" a jet ski or two over the last few months when they haven't given way to the right or simply play chicken with you. Richard Heads!

It looks to this Kiwi like the big boat was in far too much current and fair slammed into that poor wee craft sideways.
Ross

I was looking at a Globe the other day. It seems you folks down there are upside down. It beats the heck out of me why yawl don't just fall off the planet, so it's understandable how you'd see things a little differently.

Looks like the smaller boat has the word "Canadian" written on it - that might explain it. ;)

:D :D :D :D

I'm pretty sure the 'tender' has the word 'Cavalier' on it. Ayuh, pretty much says it all, don't it?

Re: Right-of-way Problem

The best part is that these guys seem to be trying to 'fix' the situation while still on the water. I thinking the guy with his foot on the bow of the 'Cavalier' is its owner. I imagine him saying the the owner of the sedan, "OK, well just give me a second here and I'll be on my way in a jiffy, sorry for the inconvenience, old chap. Thanks, yeah, if you could just hold up that roof there, OK, thanks."

Re: Right-of-way Problem

Hey, I found a little info on that picture. It is posted on the naval safety center web page:

May, 1967 -- A 16-foot runabout pierced through the mid hull section of a 30-foot cabin cruiser in a collision on a lake in Missouri. One passenger in the cabin cruiser was killed, and eight were injured. Each boat carried five persons. The reported probable cause of this recreational accident was excessive speed and poor visibility.

http://www.safetycenter.navy.mil/photo/archive/photo10.htm

This is a great web page which could be titled - how not to be a bonehead.

Amazing how level the cabin cruiser is sitting and that is even afloat.

Re: Right-of-way Problem

Now that i've seen the picture, i can safely say...Damn! It had better have been dark and no lights cause someone would have to be damn blind not to see that...I mean, was there anyone driving the boat that is now parked inside t'other one? Even if it was a question of right of way...you can be right...and you can be DEAD right...Oh well, i guess the world needs every kind of person...including the idiots...
