right plugs

Motor is a 1991 Johnson 175 VRO V-6.
Manual calls for Champion plug # QL77JC4 with a gap of .030
Most of my fishing trips are a 15 minute ride @4000 RPM, then 3-4 hours of trolling @1200 RPM, then 15 minute ride back @4000 RPM.
I usually change plugs midway through season.
My question(s)-would I be better served by using a different plug? Would I get faster start-ups at the dock, or would I get less fouling? Should I change brand, or try a different heat range, or use platinum tipped? If anybody suggests a change part numbers would help. Thanks!

Isn't that suppposed to be a .040 gap? Otherwise I wouldn't change a thing.

Yes - 0.040 promotes better idle and low speed operation. Stay with the recommended plug.

I believe its .030 for high speed operation and .040 for sustained low speed operation.

I've been told by people I trust that with a mission profile like yours, you'll get better results with those same plugs gapped at .040 - it's what I'd do. If you get a chance, it'd be cool if you'd report your findings. Are you getting carbon deposits?
