Ring Prop-Anyone have one?

I have a SeaStar trihull with a 1984 Mercury 50hp and a dinged up aluminum 13p prop.
The only performance issue that I have had is that the prop 'blows out' in a hard turn.
I am considering one of the props from Ring Prop .
According to the website, the design is supposed to reduce 'blow out' and improve maneuverability.

Does anyone have any experience with this type of prop?

No experience with that prop, but a worn alum prop would be expected to vent in turns...You need a prop with better design qualities.
More cup can be one feature...also, make sure you don't have a transducer or speed wheel mounted on the transom closer than 12" from center....this can cause alot of head scratching too.

TrailerBoats magazine did a test on them and found they do exctly what you are looking for.

However, they also found they bleed off a little top end speed.

I'll bet a new regular prop will be just as good.

3 blade AL from iboats $70 (on sale)
3 blade Stainless from iboats $158 (on sale)

4 blade Propulse Composite $150

3 blade AL Ring Prop $175

That's why I'm only "considering", and haven't bought one yet. ;)

I am not sure I understand ring props reasoning behind the fact that their prop stands a lesser chance of being damaged from an underwater strike of an object.........the blades may not get dinged up, but my gut reaction is that at the very least the ring will get messed up and has to be more damaging to the prop shaft than a standard blade set-up.

Don't know what it is today, but corporate mail servers are breaking down left & right. Maybe some particularily nasty virus or something, but there's definitely something going on.

Conventional props can be rebuilt ... many times. I doubt one of those things could ... even once. :(

$158 for a stainless!!! You would be crazy not to get one...Be aware that you will not use the same pitch if you change to stainless.

Unless we raise the engine a hole...then in many cases, we can use the same pitch.

I thought the big benefit of a ring prop was to help prevent prop bite to the skiers/boarders in the water?

Scrumbler, you may be right on their thinking, but if there is someone THAT close to the prop, I can't see how the ring will save the day...BUT, I guess it could be an attempt to protect the stupid...
