Read a test article in Trailer Boats mag....was wondering if anyone has had the oppurtunity to maybe try one out. On the RingProp web site, they are currently available only for Mercs, Yammies and Hondas.

The writer of the Trailer Boats article was, as I see it, fairly impressed with the prop.

EDIT: Looks like the prop is manufactured in Melbourn, Austraila.

And try to get information from them!

So far, we have found them a very unco-operative bunch. Even some of their website menu items don't work.

There've been other posts saying a similar thing before.

Re: RingProps

Overton's now lists RingProps for some low HP motors in their latest catalog. The description claims "performance Benefits", but these are not articulated. The do articulate benefits in safety to fish and people, and prop safety against minor groundings

Re: RingProps

They would be no use down here where you run the chance of running through lake hydrilla or coastal seaweed. The weeds will get sucked through and get hung on the ring. I say you're probably get a couple of hundred feet before you had to stop, tilt the engine out, and start cleaning the prop. Far too much work if you ask me. They may work fine if you always boat in clean, clear open water.

Nav

Re: RingProps

I only mentioned it cause I read about them in the mag and was curious. I checked out the web site and it was a lot of hype....safety, performance and the like. But still, the Trailer Boats rag is pretty reputable....don't think they'd build this product up or even mention it if it wasn't. Maybe dig a little deeper. Thanks guys.

Re: RingProps

OBJ, these came out about 4 yrs ago or so, but were made out of composite...They were coming apart and they stopped production..Now they are out with an alum version molded to their specs.
The "ring" is causing a fair amount of drag on a properly set-up boat, and I don't see how they can ever overcome that...I may be wrong though..

Re: RingProps

Didn't catch your post on this Ken. That's what I would think also. But referring to the article in TB mag, the writer said that the rig lost about 1mph when the props where changed. Course, might be different on different rigs....probably just have to watch how the prop catch's on. But if that's all that's lost, would be a good investment if your more into the "safety" aspect of the sport.

Re: RingProps

You'd better live a long time then, Kenny! Prop science is only just beginning.

Watching Ringprop's video, their boat seems to spin on a dime time and again without any sign of blowout. Impressive.

But we contacted them with a view to buying one for test and becoming an agent for this patch of the Med if they were any good, and although we spoke on the phone and wrote several times, their voice sounded good but their response was zilch.

Makes me wonder what their response would be if any buyer had trouble after.

Looks like a perfect prop for a "toon".

The vectored thrust would help with slow speed steering.

Re: RingProps

I'm sure it would DJ. I tried a "Prop Guard" on my toon once....it's the one that bolts to the cav plate and skeg. Stationary. The toon really responded to little adjustments in steering but the drag it created was bad. RPM's were up put overall mph took a dive. I'd really like to try a ring prop if they ever get around to making them for John/Rudes....... :D
