i will take er slow. I only have a 2km run outa the bay to were i fish and
the bilge pump woks great.

I would reccomend strongly against it the weater can change fast in the straight of Juan De Fuca I would not want to rely on just a kicker when it gets bad fast and murphy's law says it will die at the worst possible moment.

I'm sorry for being cryptic. and I don't really seriously recommend this, but if you happened to have an old farm truck with a piston slapping really bad and wanted to keep chugging it along for as long as possible, the best way to do it and be sure that you aren't going to have a catastrophic failure is to completely remove the piston and connecting rod... sure the engine will run a little rough (missing a cylinder) and may vibrate a little since it is out of balance... but it will likely last a good bit longer than if you break or sieze the dying piston and throw a rod. A friend and I did it one time on an old chevy truck engine and it ran as well after as before... (although that's not saying much)

I know this is shade tree engineering at it's worst, but you can always drop the pan, remove the rod and piston for the dead cylinder, slit a piece of hose and clampt it around the main bearing journal with hose clamps to keep the oil pressure in... take the push rods and rocker arms for that cylinder off and you're good to go minus one cylinder....

LOL, I did that once for an old Ford Grenada a buddy had. You couldn't tell a thing was wrong with it. He even traded it in on a newer car about 4 years later.

Ive seen stuck rings cause this issue before it might be worth while trying a can of merc... powertune through the carb see waht it dose. If its not knocking with 35psi hmmmmmmmmm.

First of all, this is probably the most awesome thread that I've read on iBoats so far. lol. I'm cracking up... especially at the guy who traded in his 3cyl car for another car. (I wonder if the new owner ever suspected).

Second of all, I'd set up a video blog/mercruiser reality series and charge people to subscribe to it. Then I would drive the heck out of that engine. I'd pay to see what happens. lol.

It is very unlikely that you will encounter a sudden catastrophic failure. It is much more likely that the engine will continue to run, and if anything does go bad, you will most likely hear it get worse. If your piston to wall clearance gets worse, and your piston starts slapping around in the bore, you will hear it slapping around, and you will know to shut it down.

Ya know I said this a few years back about my 900rr motorcycle. Till I had a rod come out the front of the motor at 9000rpms and I was riding an oil slick on my back tire...

The bottom end my be fine on your motor. But if you've had something do enough damage to cause that kind of a loss of compression chances are there is something in the engine. That could cause a bearing to get taken out or a piston to come apart. Who knows. In a car sure run it till it blows. In a boat I wouldn't take the chance. Who knows what the conditions would be when it went or the damage it could cause. Fix it and save yourself the potential cost later.

I came across A piece of ^%##$ volvo 140 and im in the proses of taken it apart to see if its salvageable.

life would be alot simpler if i were rich, or if i didn't love to fish.
