Buying a throttle cable for setup in title. Cable on boat is a Volvo Penta Xact 14ft.... When I look online I see the same part number I found on the OEM cable but was concerned about the end going to the actual throttle lever. Is it universal or is there something specific I need to attach it to the Rinker throttle? I’m 2 hrs from the boat so I put my hands on it myself so I’m hoping someone can chime in.

If both ends of your cable have a 10-32 thread then any 3300 series cable will work. Just google 3300 control cable. If there is a marine store near you they should have it in stock. The Supreme version are much smoother and may be the original Volvo version.

Think you answered your own question again, 14ft? Best to remive the old cable entirely, check the ends for compatibility and measure on the floor. As stated most Volvo cables are 3300/33C cables, same ends (colloquially universal). Only curve they threw was during the OMC transition period with an OMC proprietary remote end and 33C drive end

Thx for the reply. I called a parts store and their answer was "the throttle and shift control cables are usually the same length". Does that sound correct? Im 2 hrs from the boat so Im trying to take a best shot on getting the right length.

Never assume the throttle and shift cables are the same length. Sometimes there may be as much as 2’ difference.

Understand totally on assumptions. BTDT…. I know the throttle cable is 14ft… if I ordered a 16 ft cable for the shift, would the extra 2 ft be a problem if it were a 14 ft as well? Could I “store” the excess in a coil in the engine compartment?

It would depend on the compartment, but it could be a length that doesn't coil well. Plus, I can imagine it would wear out sooner if it had sharp bends in it. Why don't you order both lengths and return the one you don't need?

I believe that’s the route I’m going to go.
