Rinker 280 EC 12v Fuse?

Just purchased a new Rinker 280 EC...Great boat but I can seem to not trip the 12v Breaker ever time I plug in the coffee pot. Its a Cuiesinart 12v thats made for marine use so I would think it wouldn't overload the system but it does. I even took it above deck to the 12v spot light plug and the same thing.

Any ideas on a fix?

Thanks

Sure I have an idea. 1) Check the current draw label on the coffee pot. 2) Check the rating on the circuit breaker for the 12 volt system. Chances are #1 is greater than #2.

Do NOT put a bigger fuse in as you can/will overheat the wires and cause a fire. What ST is saying is that the current draw is too much for the wire size. The fuse protects the wire.

What is the fuse rated for? 5 amps, 10 amps? Your coffee maker should be less than the rated fuse. Some coffee makers will tell you how many watts it is and not amps. The conversion is Amps = Watts / Volts. So, we know that you have 12v. So, if you have a 10 amp fuse/wiring, you are set at a maximum 120 watt coffee maker.

Also, do you have anything else plugged into it? Sometimes, other equipment is plugged into the accessory outlet for items like this.

Your only other option is to run a larger wire from the battery or terminal block and fuse it accordingly to the wire run length and expected current draw.

Re: Rinker 280 EC 12v Fuse?

bhammer,
Thanks a lot...Looks like most 12v coffee pots on the market pull 20 amps..The one I bought does. I cant get to the boat now but will this weekend. based on trying both 12v plugs tripping I cant imagine that it has a fuse that will hold it....
Seems dumb to design a system like that, but looks like the case.
Looks like its time for shore power.

You are welcome. The heating elements are the big draw on them. I have one that works because it doesn't keep the water hot on a hotplate, just makes hot water. It is a single cup jobby! I got it as a gift but I'll look to see what kind it is.

If you don't want to add a new wire that can handle the current draw, you can see about getting an inverter that clips to the battery.
