FIRST THING FIRST: mickyryan... I wouldn’t be on this forum or where I am right now without this guy... I greatly appreciate the time, experience invested & guidance that has been kindly offered.... It’s been more than a blessing & something that I feel that could be wayyy more than just a “project”.
Spring 2019 I got my first boat... 91 Rinker Captiva 189 4.3L.. “v8 was what I really wanted, but we don’t always get everything that we hope for..”. My first issue “seemed” common to be many’s first thousand right off the gate: blown head gasket, could not believe it & I knew that’s what I had to always be aware of.. I grew up on the water with my mother, my #1 spot to be.. Towards the end of getting it all done(1 month of season left & paid thee brother-in-law to fix the gasket), my brother-in-law’s work buddy mentioned to him that he had thought about getting rid of his Yellow Rinker Captiva 206.. My brother-in-law immediately asked “what size engine?”= Would have been my first question... v8: Sold. Happiest Person Alive.
My lady & I had the boat out for one month in the ‘19 season.. floor was getting a hair weak @ ski locker.. so I put a sheet of carpeted plywood across the floor there to get thought that month & patch the repair that winter..
Spring 2020: 1 week before season(Memorial Day) was my Day 1 of my “slight” realization, including manyyy questions haha....
My whole 2020 lake season consisted of this 206 Rinker Project. Wasted a TON of time figuring where my “minimum of repairing the right way” without doing what I unconsciously believed to be absolutely IMPOSSIBLE/crazy/I can’t do that!! Lol but my gosh, I could have saved twice the amount right off the bat to just rip everything out...... learn something new every day
REALIZATION:
•Demo of 3/4 of entire interior floor(top floor, stringers, motor mounts rear bench seat, engine hatch, vinyl, etc).
•Fiberglassing new Motor mounts(where I believe the damage started), Transom(might as well do that too): 80% of boat floor, etc.
•Found 3 terrible JB Welds on:
-Block
-Exhaust Manifold
Soooooo:
•Bought new Boat SBC 350 Crate Motor....
•Painting of SBC 350 (myself)
•Painting of chair mounts & aluminum components surrounding.
•Too much to list: plz check pics out!
*Entire Project has been saved throughout(currently 631 photos).
3 weeks from the end of boating season: I was short of clear/detailed knowledge, was not competent of getting it done the “Only Way: Right Way” by the last weekend(labor-day), ZERO summer & a pissed-off lady. I decided to get back to my family & my lady that had not saw me for awhile. My lady did help me on the weekends, but not “that quality time”.. good hand to have & I was extremely eager/obligated to see her boat passion grow
BREAK....

Winter ‘21(3weeks in)
*Downsizing of Storage Rental(-66%)
*Prep/Organization of A LOT of stuff...
09/10/21:
*Prep/Organization of tasks, Materials & Parts needed:
“
️“ = not 100% clear.
“
”= partly clear.
•Tie into front existing fiberglass floor(under front bow).
️See pics
•Figure Drainage system in stringers:
-unsure of exact location of circle within each box: inner-rear?
•Foam in stringer bays(planning to just put 2 holes & fill in each).
•New Transom Installed
️I have a tiny hole that was revealed through at top of engine outdrive/outer-fiberglass shell of body where transom hole is.... i had traced this inner so I will have to add in that spot on my new transom piece(wondering how to add the glass there: just small pieces on inside to build that inward is the only thing I can think of, this correct?
•New Motor Mounts installed
(any suggestions appreciated of what I may be missing to find Mount location: I also used a laser(in pics) to find how far back it was, but removed slightly damaged transom so won’t have that laser measurement). I do have a direct spot relevance with two other techniques(pictured).
•Custom Aluminum swim platform installed(good buddy making it & installing for me).
️Before or after top floor is put in?
•Floor Painted(Hull): Bilge pump, engine area/surrounding, ski locker/new cooler painted yellow(for help with keeping it clean & also look great).
️Ideas more than welcome!!
•Pre-existing Mercruiser outdrive installed
•New Engine Installed:
️
-All gaskets/parts to buy for new SBC 350
-Does engine go in before the whole top floor is installed OR is it okay to put all top floor pieces in except for the 2 rear piece squares(left & right of motor)? That way I could get the exact cut for the inner-engine side?
️
•New Side-Exhaust Installed:
-Come closer to time, may need help... I have pics of new exhaust
️
•Top floor planning to possibly use Raptor Liner(white) &
️Would love to know if there is a way to use a yellow non-stick grit on top of the white floor maybe?...
•Rear Bench Seat Rebuilt & Vinyl:
️
-would like to find someone to subscribe to(YouTube) for detailed vinyl videos to see what it takes for some of the detailed stuff.
•Sun Deck Engine Compartment:
-Making a bifold hatch(unsure on what all I will be placing on right & left) for batteries, possible amp(
️Marine?) & portable external battery(for blender).
-Cut 3/4 plywood down for Sundeck
-Prime and/or resin?
️
-Possibly have the white vinyl embroidered with RINKER Logo
(something I’m 99% sure I will have done professionally obviously).
-Wrap white vinyl
-Install backbench seat
•Cut for cup holders on sides
•Carpet sides
•Tint Windows
•Install New Rinker Vinyl Logos & Name
•Truck Air-Bagged for towing
(open to brand/type)
-has 9” suspension lift w 37x14” tires.
IF ENOUGH: knowledge, time & money for the ‘21 spring season prep, would love to:
•Make ski locker into a fiberglass cooler & attach drain hose(looking for recommendations) or something that will drain close to bilge successfully/professionally.
•Vinyl: What it takes for some of the detailed vinyl on seats..
️
•Sub box made(fiberglassed possibly) under driver & passenger dash
-Do I have to have marine subs/speakers/amp??....
️
-Would love custom ideas/pics for great ideas on custom placement(plexiglass, box styles(kicker solobaric: 2: 10” square L5).
•Rear Bench Seat base face & pre-existing white vinyl’d side tabs:
-custom-fiberglassed with fleece for approx 4-6 speakers(6x9: rear bench base sides; 5” mids: interior lower-side pieces)
-painted SBC350 engine yellow
•Would love to find some yellow exhaust hose or anything I could detail things for the yellow accents within engine bay.
️
•Vinyl: What it takes for some of the detailed vinyl on seats..
️
•Cool hatch/accessory ideas.

•Possible “RINKER” LOGO paint stencil on floor
️
•Trailer:
-Trailer skirts carpeted & ready for install.
-Trailer steps carpeted & ready for install.
-new hub bearings(best spot?)
-Cleaning/Prep & Paint
-Install new led light kit
-Install a front cabinet to trailer
•Getting pricing & funds ready for:
-1708, CSM, 10 moe gal of Resin
-Engine Parts to put new crate engine in
