Is this cool? Some areas are a little rusty and appear to have some salt residue on the exterior. Is it OK to gently rinse off,let sun-dry and then liberally apply corrosionblock to all the metal parts?Where would all that water run to...are there drain holes below whwew I can't see them. The motor is a 91 Johnson 88 Special. Also ,what's the recommended type of grease to squirt into the zerk fittings on this motor?

yes.. do it while it is running, and try not to get the electricl parts wet (circuts and ignition) and marine greese works fine. I just use regular construction grease.

Yeah Sloopy, and then he can replace the block after it cracks from cleaning it HOT! Maybe if he puts that "Construction" grease in there, it will be ok. What an idiot!!!!!!!

I reccomend it to my customers all the time. Just rinse with fresh water and use some soap if needed. I wouldn't run the engine while doing it because of the chance of the engine sucking water into the intake. Leave it out in the hot sun and let it dry before using any corrosion block.

I always take engine degreaser and spary the motor let sit for a minute take a sandwich baggie and wrap around carb with rubber band and flush with water. Motor should be tilted up and yes there is a weep hole to drain any other water out but somtimes you have unplug it open. Our good friend wd40 works good for disbursing water. Also lube all moving parts with oil and grease all fittings. Hope this helps

I go to the local spray carwash after each saltwater trip. My sound box has rearfacing vents and I just wash the entire engine from the front. I then let it sit, uncovered, all day in the hot sun. Spray everything down, inside and out, with LPS2 and I'm done. I've been doing this since they invented those carwashes and have never had a problem. Walker

thanks for all the excellent advice.Tomorrow I plan on taking her out for the first time(since the test ride when I bought her). The motor will geta thorough rinsing thereafter.Have a can of engine tuner(omc)...Any additional instructions besides the whole can alternating in each carb then let sit for 3-16 hrs. Also is there another product to use each season that works equally well or better.

Be sure and use marine grade grease in the fittings...it won't mix with water as will the non- marine type...check the manual it will give you specs on that...just a Thought

Hello.
What rickdb1boat says about sloopy's advice,is rude but true.
It would be better to use an air pressure spray gun with a water/soap/oil mix because this will not cause new rust.
If you cannot find "marine" grease, you can go to an automotive store and buy graphite grease, which is the same as marine under a different name.
