riser gasket

hi guys i have a 92 volvo 430a that hydro-locked on me at the weekend, found the cause to be water getting in down the manifold...just fitted a new manifold and riser gasket a week previous,<br />upon further investigation found the (new) riser gasket soaked through and in a sorry state, it seemed to be fully in place and riser was tightened as much as possible ..any ideas??

IF you have Volvo manifolds and risers, you shouldn't be using paper gaskets.<br />May also be bad manifolds and risers. Here is a picture of what to look for. It's a Merc picture, but the principal is the same.<br /><br />

thanks don , ordered the gaskets with the manifolds they are glm parts didnt notice they were paper when putting them on but compared it to the old foil one today, certainly learn from my mistakes, will specify non paper gaskets in future...
