I have a alum. 21' starcraft Islander with some seepage at the keel seam below the bow. This vessel is of 1967 vintage and I would like to find a permanent repair for this problem as the boat is good on the water for fishing with the high gunnales. Do I need to think about giving up on this boat or is there hope.

There is hope indeed. You can find lots of threads on fixing aluminum boats. Do lots of reading then come back and start asking questions. I bet the majority of your questions will be answered by older posts. Just dig a little. Good luck!

Are you aware that you have just stumbled on the largest collection of tin Starcraft enthusiasts on the internet? Check out the Starcraft section of this forum. Lots of resto projects going on. Gluvit applied from the inside if you can access the area would be the best. It will also work from the outside but it is not UV resistant so you'd need to paint it. You certainly don't want to give up on that hull!!!!

i think thats where mine is leaking as well, but i just ripped up the deck and have not tested it yet, you can see where they piled the sealant in there so not to suprised it would leak there

I think we might have a similar project. Mine is a 74 New Picture (1).jpg 21 ft Starcraft runabout. You got more of the deck out than I have tho. Mine has dents and loose rivets, and I'm going to reseal the seams too with gluvit. They tell you how to do things here, so we're in good hands. I hope 100_3830.JPG . Good luck with yours. And welcome aboard.

Re: Riveted hull on aluminum 21' starcraft islander

I just removed the shrinkwrap from this vessel and the interior is still in good shape. I have a little more time now and would like to get this boat back in shape for use. Aside from the riveted seam leaking and the mercruiser 120 needing a redo she is just like new. NOT I want to bring this vessel back to life so that I can use it as it is a very seaworthy. Will probably post some pics if the sun ever comes back out. I hear that there is a plastic shot blast that can be used on Alum hulls which I may look into. Later

3/16 x .33 closed head rivets @ graingers $12 for 250 cured 90% of my leakage in 2 hours never having to yank a deck board
