Re: Rivets vs. Welds
Weight is also a consideration. An all welded hull is typically much
heavier than a riveted hull. Ok, hull thickness is another factor, possibly.
If hauling weight and using efficient motors are concerns, then a riveted
hull may have advantages. In my riveted boats that I have had, I have
always splashed some water in, so any leakage from rivets has not been
of any significance. A sponge or small bilge pump could handle that easily,
and every boat should have a bilge pump, anyway.
I'm not a rock banger, so I'll stay with a riveted boat.
