A friend of mine has a 5.7 Mercruiser Alpha sterndrive boat, the flame arrestor cover states serial number: 0D391241.

We've been tuning it up and getting it ready to splash, and we're going to rebuild the carb next. The carb number is 17082403. From all the research I've done this carb was typically used on Crusader engines, 350 & 454, I assume all inboard applications, and not Mercruiser engines.

The carb rebuild kit I find is the same for most Q-jets used in marine applications. Mallory 9-37621

My questions:

Can you guys confirm the correct rebuild kit for this carb?
Can you tell if the jetting is different for the 350 and 454?

Just want to make sure this carb wasn't jetted for a larger engine and stuck on a 5.7L.

Thanks,
Keith

For Mercruiser's it definitely was different. It is also different for Mercruiser 305 and 350 Magnums. Also think it was used on some 4.3L.

Re: Rochester Q-Jet - Rebuild Questions

Anybody know what the jet size needs to be for the 350?

Are there any other differences....meetering rods, etc.?

I don't have them with me, but it should be in the Mercruiser Manual #15, or match your year. In the "Adults Only" sticky thread.

The primary jets, primary rods, and secondary rods, vary between the models.
