can an accurate vacuum test be done by removing the 1/4 hose from the primary vacuum linkage on a q-jet?

yes....any full time vacuum port will do...I usually use one on the base plate but even the one next to the choke pull off feeds from the base under the butterflies...

thanks dr. also, is it o.k. to use two gaskets if there is a little warpage on the base plate?

Get a thicker single gasket.
