thats really not gonna tell you much - yeah, it will if you have a major leak and the drive has time to cool and create a vacuum and a faulty seal does allow water in
but if you have a slow or minimal leak losing gear lube you may not see it
the proper way is to pressure test the drive before you fill it with lube - something that should be done anytime the drive lube is drained, the drive serviced, any seals are replaced, etc...
after we get back from the lake we are going to go ahead and drain the lower unit oil again to make sure there is not water getting in the gears
