Rod holders

On both sides, on top towards the rear of my boat there are wood pieces about a foot long. I don't know what they are actually for, would they be a good place to put rod holders?
Sure hope that makes sense. Will try to get picture.

If they are like the ones on the left side of this picture on top of the gunwhale they are just for giving you something to step on when getting into the boat from a dock. Dont know why you couldnt take them off and put a rod holder there.

Yep, just teak step pads.

D'oh. Steps make sense.
If I was standing on a dock looking down, I would realize it.
Standing on the ground looking up, it just didn't sink in.
