Hey rodbolt,
I recently bought this motor off a guy who repowered to a 4-stroke because he didn't like the smoke. I been using it a little while and I love it. I recently checked how much oil I was burning and it comes out to 77:1
I did a search on oiling here and it seems I should be more like 50:1 so I think maybe it was adjusted for less smoke? It smokes good and plenty when I start until it seems to warm up.
So, is the adjustment procedure the same for the 225 as the 250 that I have seen here. Anything else I should check?

set the lever so the clearence between the lever and the stopper pin on the pump is .005 to .010 with the throttle link on the starboard side bottome 2 throttle shafts dissconected.
the object is to set the oil pump link with the throttle shutters fully closed.
always remember its a variable ratio system. at idle it is possible to hit a 200-1 ratio on some models. at wide open some can go as rich as 35-1. depends on the model and the RPM.
best I can tell you is to buy some service liturature. the 99 or 01 marine tech guide, the rigging guide and the service manual are invaluable.
not only that they make good reading at the breakfast table.

Thanks rodbolt!
It sounds like the same adjustment as the 250. Also sounds like the adj may be correct since my typical trip is 10-15 minutes idling out of the river@1000rpm,1-2 hours running at @3800rmp, and another 10-15 minutes idling back in.I rarely run it more than 4200 or run WOT.
Why all the smoke when I first start it and warm it up though? I guess you want me to get the literature, but I have to admit I'm not much of a reader :D I will check the adjustment Sunday PM.

mostly cause the fuel evaporates and leaves the oil in the crankcase behind. on the next cold start you have a very rich oil mix going into the cylinders for a bit. its normal

alos be aware on the 97-98 V yams there was about a 100%failure on the impeller hub. if yours has not been changed I reccomend it. no one will admit it but the plastic went from black to white in those years and then to black again. the hub failure is and was about 100% on the white hubbed ones.
