Rodbolt. Can you tell me which wires to read on TPS? No one else seems to know.

I have a 1990 225 ETLD 2 stroke carbed motor. It actually runs fine but during routine maintenance I wanted to check the TPS voltage since it regulates the timing. I jury-rigged a way to read the voltage from the TPS but am not 100% which wires to read. That Manual does not say. My guess is it is between the Pink and Orange. Currently it reads .18v which is far below the specified .50v. However I wanted to check here with someone who might know for sure. Thanks for your help.

here at the house I dont have an antique manual.
what wire colors are on your TPS?
they all work the same,chebby,ford,merc yamaha.
5V reference and a pick off voltage fed back to the ECU to give throttle angle information.
dont get giggy with it.
if the engine runs correctly leave it be.

Pink, orange and red. The red seems like the 5v reference. Pink seems like it is variable. But do you read pink to orange, OR pink to ground? Thanks.

ill try to hunt the manual down tomorrow but I think its pink to red.
orange is typically the 5V reference line.

I have the same problem. I have a 86' V6 Excel the wires are red white and black. If anyone knows which ones to read i appreaciate the help.

I have an 89 excel, I was told to get it to read .41 volts with the throttle plates closed. But I am not sure which wires to check.

White and black are the wires. I looked around, yeah I know it is 1 am but... the owner before me had stripped the white wire behind the harness, so i tested it with a ground and I was at .92 volts man this make alot of sense because my times was off on this motor. So I set the voltage to .41, resynced the carbs ( i did the test with the carb link off per the manual) and reset the pilot screws. In the am I hope I have gas fire and spare all at the right time. Good luck

You are correct. The Seloc manual says read he Excel TPS across the white and black wires and set to .41v. In my case the wires are red, orange and pink and I am not 100% sure which wires to read. I am still waiting to hear back from Rodbolt.

well I reset everything to factory spec and she fired right up, given her a quick clean then to the ramp we go

this is why I dont like to post much on how to check it, if your using the adapter note the wire colors flip flopped.
if you have 5V between orange and red it tells me two things.
as I know the orange wire is the 5V positive reference it tells me the red is the return and the pink will be the pickoff voltage so if red is the return and orange is the reference then pink has no choice but be the pickoff voltage and should be the one that you set it by.

Thank you Rodbolt. The reading was a bit jumpy from pink to orange but a steady .50v from pink to ground. So I think I am good.
