Re: Rodbolt Hits 10,000....posts

I've been reading rodbolt's posts for a while and it was obvious to me that he knows what he is doing and is willing to teach even a novice like me.

Recently I posted a problem to him and he was kind enough to answer. His post gave me some things to try and learn. This is my first boat and my problem is probably mundane and uninteresting but he took the time to respond to the post.

Thank you and I am sure you will make a fine teacher. They are lucky to have you.

Best of luck.

i miss read this 10,000 post's i was thinking 10,000 rpm's yes you need good rodbolt's for that
ever seen a Yamaha turn that many rpm's even a test motor
i was using a small block V8 chev we ran out of cash real quick, on this test 8500 rpm's was more real at the end

no bad intent rodbolt either

not 10K RPM but 9200 was fairly common. some of the 4 stroke bike motors go 14K RPM regularly and some of the formula one stuff goes 18K+ on a regular basis, even after sitting for 10 months and 3 year old gas and 8 year old cooling system components.
well maybe not on the gas :)
but if you think thats crazy why do folks do that with the high performance high revving outboards ?
with the correct ECU mapping I can see the V6 EFI yamaha 4 strokes being capeable of 10K RPM with not many mods, however gearing and propping may be difficult.
8500 on an SbC is a tad pricey but easy to accomplish. vascojet rods were rated to 17K and milodon had a crank rated to 15 K and manley had some pistons rated at 14 K. in fact the vascojet warrenty stated that if the rod caused the failure they would replace the motor.
speed costs money, how fast ya wanna go ?

Great rodbolt, you were the first to answer my first post on this forum and I have learned from many other posts in which you have given your advice. I know that I, and if I may speak for everyone on the forum, appreciate all that you have done for all of us.

Thanks,
Gary

PS:
I live in Mobile, if you come down to see your Mom, let me know. I'd like to thank you in person, buy you a "cold one" and maybe go for a boat ride down Dog River then out into the bay.

I want to add my Congratulations for the 10,000 posts and Masters certification. Awesome to think about for either milestone.
Yes gatorred, a Yamaha can be made to turn 10,000 RPM's. May not be as time consuming and hard as what rodbolt has accomplished, but will put a substanial dent in your pocket book.
