As the person with the most knowledge of Yamaha outboards that I have ?contact? with, I?ve never seen you jump into any of the 2 vs 4 stroke debates or really express opinion regarding good or bad design/engineering, the best motor for an application, etc.. I for one would be interested in hearing you?re opinion of
1. Expected lifespan in hours of modern 4 vs 2-strokes
2. Average number of hours before a valve adjustment would be needed on the Yamahas
3. Overall maintenance requirements of 2 vs 4 strokes
4. Will emissions regulations force the demise of the 2-stroke outboards as they did for 2 stroke streetbikes
5. And, anything else you?d be willing to share with us.

Re: Rodbolt, Opinion?

not to be short but, beats me.
I have seen well maintained 2 strokes with thousands of hours as I have 4 strokes.
but I have seen both fail rapidly usually due to fuel or overheat neither can Yamaha control.
as far as the ban, I suspect, like the 700B bailout and the Ethanol fuel crap, yes they will be one day with the exception of direct injected 2 strokes.
depends on how many knee-jerk congressman actually show up for the hearing that day.
