rollers/bunks question

Hey folks....somewhat new to boating. I recently had to modify/adjust a trailer to fit a boat (16ft SS)....this trailer has more rollers than my last.....should the rollers be raised high enough that they actually help SUPPORT the weight of the boat or just high enough for the boat to roll over them??

Also, as far as bunks go....is there a general rule to follow or more about personal comfort...i have 2 bunks on bottom and each is only 3ft long...too short?? about right?? does it matter GREATLY?? I have seen 17 ft boats with 9 ft bunks....etc

It all depends on your hull. Whalers, for example, are supported on the keel rollers and the short bunks are for stability. A flat carolina skiff needs to have its weight on flat bunks.

ALso you have to figure out how to get the most roll out of the rollers instead of dragging across the bunks.

ALso depends on whether you sink your trailer--one reason to have rollers is so you don't.

From what you describe here, more rollers and short bunks what you have in my opinion is a Keel Roller Bunk trailer. Which was designed to carry more of the weight on those keel rollers and less on the bunks unless of course you would like to re-engineer it. What you want to do though is to set it up so that the bunks end at the transom or extend slightly past the transom.
