I just rebuilt my carb and fuel pump for my Evinrude ER6CUD, but am having a hard time getting it adjusted/set. I am a novice at best, so please talk slow and use little words. I have two adjustment needles, one on the side (with a spring) and one on the front. What should the initial settings be to begin adjusting these? If it matters, I had to order the "late model" fuel pump repair kit for this, although this should not effect the settings that I can see. Any tips or pointers? Also, any suggestions on where to put an inline fuel filter on this thing, as there doesn't seem to be any room "under the hood."

Thanks and God Bless,
Ryan

Can you double check your model number, can't cross it.
Usually the carbs with the plastic top and the spring tension low speed needle has a fixed high speed jet. Not sure about the second needle on the front of the carb. Is it on the side of the carb and points down, if so the is the idle screw used to set the idle speed.

Pardon the typo, but the correct model # is E6RCUD. The needle on the front points in from the front, level to the ground. It is hard to get a screwdriver to it because of its proximity to the front of the "lower cowl" (I think that is the name of the external body housing).

Mine is a little different than that. The #31 screw with spring does not exist on mine. Instead, the #15 needle comes in the front as shoen in the parts diagram, but perpendicular to it (still level to the ground) the screw with the spring on it comes in on the left side, toward the "tip" of the #31 needle, effectively forming an "L." It may serve the same function, of idle adjustment, I don't know. If that is the case, how do I set the low speed needle (#15), and then the idle adjustment?

This all started when my 5 year old daughter and I were going on a night jug fishing trip and the boat just died on me at half throttle in the middle of the river. I was able to finally get the boat restarted, but could only throttle it up about 1/4-1/3 of the way or else it would die. I changed the plugs, even though I had no problem with fire. That is when I rebuilt the carb (even though it did not look that bad) and ended up rebuilding the fuel pump (after messing up the diphragm gasket inspecting it), but feel that these may have been unneeded. It is running again, but I have to keep it throttled up at idle to keep it running. I should be good to go if I could just get it set.

When you rebuilt the carb, did you remove the flex tube going from the nozzel well and clean the little tiny jet at the bottom of the nozzel well?
That is your low speed circut, and if it is not perfectly clean the engine will not idle.

Yes. I cleaned everything, including that jet, and replace the tube. Nothing really seemed to be clogged to begin with.

Lightly seat the needle valve and back it out 2 1/2 turns, final adjustment willhave to be made with the boat in the water and in gear.
