How useful would it be to have a cutter on an outboard? do you get many problems with damage from stuff wrapped round the prop? I beleive there is a new one that works for ropes etc and I'm about to buy a new Johnson 4 stroke 150 for a rib.....so should I get one? I think its an Ausy product.

Any ideas opinions....if I'm likely to get expensive damage it might be worth looking into.

Thanks

Re: rope cutters for outboards?

Skip, Getting a rope caught in a prop is a pretty serious issue. The rope wrapping around the prop could pull the boat one way, or pull something to the boat. It is possible the rope cutter would do nothing to stop this. Also, I have found it unusual to have ropes in my prop unless my brother in law was driving and I was skiing, or he was driving and I was setting the anchor.(some sort of pattern there?)

I think fish line cutters could be effective, but rope cutters have marginal useage.
