Rope lighting

I read a couple of posts and i think I have decided to use rope lighting to light up the deck at night. I like the idea of zip tying a few sections under the gunnel to shine on the floor. I was wondering about amp draw. I know LED draw very little. Do 12 volt rope lights draw more than the single units (3-4 led)? Can you buy a roll and make the connections yourself, or do you have to buy short sections pre-wired? I am thinking maybe foot long lengths. Two at the bow, 2 at the sides and maybe 1 under the splashtray. Overkill?

Re: Rope lighting

drewpster I bought 12 feet of led rope lighting for my boat because the amp draw is much lower than incandescent, .7 amps compared to .46 amp per foot.
You buy it by the foot and make the connections yourself, its simple to do, They sell end caps and clear heat shrink packs, tee's and powercords also. The price is 5 times more for leds so if you don't have the ampacity get the leds.
good luck david

Re: Rope lighting

The place I ordered mine from you just tell them what length you want and the already come with the end on and wired. Cost me $40 for 2 9 foot runs (one for each side).
