My brother has the same rope in a bag on his Rude 115 HP. He never has had the guts to try rope starting his motor. After reading all these comments I'll get him to try. Ijust got my 56 30 HP johnson running the other day. It will start fine with starter so I decided to rope start it. It was all I could do to get the rope to pull out, but it did fire up. Maybe I need more Wheaties and less Jim Beam.

Could it be your starter solenoid? IMHO, OMC solenoids fail more than starters.

I rope started a 72 100hp evinrude this summer after the battery died. 1.5 times around the flywheel and in good tune makes it fairly easy. Kicked over on the first pull and saved a nice sunset cruise. Good luck
