I can tell you where not to go.
Lake Byllesby (Dakota and Goodhue County Boarder), it stinks big time.

St Croix if you have a small boat. The big boat traffic is heavy. My little shallow 14ft gets tossed around too much to actually enjoy anything out there.

I've heard theres good fishing in the Eagan mini-lakes but those are all non-motorized lakes (trolling motors are ok).

I have the worst luck fishing so I'm not really the expert to talk to. I was in fact hoping someone would have a great reply on here so I would know.

Lake Minnetonka isn't too far away, you just have to make sure you clean the boat up good and drain all your bilge and live well water out at the landing, Minnetonka is one of the many lakes up here that has Eurasian Millfoil. You don't want to be taking that back to IL with you.
