Rot Repair in bulkhead... advice?

See attached photo at bottom of post:

I have a cuddy cabin, and I noticed a soft spot in the wall, where my left foot would be while driving, when cleaning the other day.
After some gentle poking, I noticed its a little bigger than just the spot.

The deck is fiberglass, and the wall seems to be some kind of wood that just sits on top of the deck. Does anyone have any experience with replacing this bulkhead?

I had plans to refinish the doors this winter anyway as they are getting moldy/ mildewed and wont stay clean. It would be nice to do it all at once.

Can anyone give me any pointers? This is my first hull repair that isn't a fuel tank repair (floor patch).

hi roof,.. welcome to iboats.

thats a real pita isnt it.

is the deck rotting or the wall?....if its the wall....its easy....if its the deck.....well, thats a different thing.

you will need to replace the entire side. this means under the cockpit console as well. it will mean taking the hinges out of the wood for the cuddy acess.

but all in all not a hard thing to do.
when you take it out of the water this year....and you are ready to start your restoration......take the cuddy doors off first. then....look for all screws that hold that wood onto the upper cap of the boat.....there should be about 10 of them...thats it. just pull out the wood.....use it as a template on your new wood....and stain to the color of your choice.

It is the wall that is rotting.
The doors are being redone this winter anyway, so this seems like a good time to do it all.

i had hoped it was this simple, now lets see if it really is!

there are a couple of guys here that have done cuddys.......erikg did a 22 foot ray.....ill see if i can find some links for you......but sometimes our search engine gets a bit lazy....

If it is just the dividing wall your in good shape. Looking at the trim on your floor it tells me it might have progressed a bit further. Might take a close look at that when the wall is out.
