My local yacht club has a 13' Whaler with a Honda BF20 on the back and the thing originally had cable steering. Well, that system went to crap (rusted through in 500 places) and we purchased a rotary steering system. Unfortunately, the way the transom of the boat is designed, the arm from the steering cable will run right into the part of the transom that rises up from the motor well. This presents an obvious problem. My question is if we can fabricate a new steering shaft tube that would be a little farther forward and down from the current tube (not by much, just an inch or two forward would suffice) and bolt it to the existing tube somehow. so the steering would work like normal.

Is this possible? By any really odd chance, does somebody make such a kit? It's hard to believe that both Honda and Boston Whaler failed to make a design that would allow for rotary steering. We REALLY don't want to go back to cable steering - it gets too in the way of lines and marks and whatnot.
