so if my boat is pulling to the right also, i should angle the tab above the prop off to teh left some right? as in the same angle as the motor would be when it is turning left?

Generally if the boat is trying to turn right (starboard), you will want to angle the tab to the right to compensate (\) You will want to move only in very slight increments, it doesn't take much.
