rough running

hey everyone, thanks in advance for any help to the fng. my problem is on a 96 ev 30 hp. ran great wide open, slow, idle. i then shut her down and hung out a few minutes started it back up and all seemed well then was getting up to full throttle and she just cut out and started bouncing and running real rough. it idles fine and will creap along but when u go to give it throttle it may just run rough or will start going fine and then just start running like crap. new fuel so not bad gas. what is it? please help the striper season up here is in full swing and i want to fix his prob asap. tight lines and thanks again

well it could be a number things. time to start troubleshooting. have you checked spark immediately when it fouls up. is the vent open on the fuel tank? do you have any fuel leaks. when were your carbs last cleaned and rebuilt. is your timing plate moving smoothly, and not hanging up of anything.

Sounds like you picked up some thing in the carbs, a tiny speck of dirt in the high speed jets and you have the problem you describe.

They are in the bottom of the float bowl, pull the drain plug and they are inside that hole, you will need a really skiny screw driver to ge them out.

Use a peice of stripped stranded copper wire to clean them out, reinstall and see what you have.

ok so i pulled the carb drain plug and took out the jet and cleaned w/wire. ran it today and it was great all day. then when i was feeling confident it was fixed and i was heading back it started again. tom. im going to rebuild the carb. i was told it wasnt to difficult. any tips? do i have to take off the whole starter bracket to get starter out to get to that one nut? thanks for the help
