Re: Rough Running

You need to get that idle down to idle speed. Should be 650 to 700 rpm.

Re: Rough Running

I'll try to get it that low, but when I try to drop the idle down, it just dies and won't start again.

Re: Rough Running

I've been trying to get this thing to idle for about two hours now. I have a dwell meter, timing light and vacuum guage hooked up. The dwell is 27.6, the vacuum hasnt changed and the timing is 8 btdc. Everytime I drop the throttle back to idle, it stalls. It wont start unless I give it throttle and keep it about 1000 rpms. Any ideas?

Re: Rough Running

Assuming you have a Qjet, Back the idle mixture screws out about half turn each and try it.

Well, according to that video, my guage looks exactly like the last scenario, which says its the carb needing adjusted.

Re: Rough Running

I do have to say that this is the best site around for boating help. Everyone is extremely knowldgeable and more than willing to lend their help. Nobody complains that you ask too many questions, nobody gets frustrated at you for asking the same question over and over just to make sure you understand the advice. Thanks to Don S., Chiefalen, and the rest of the iboats experts! Maybe one of these days I will be able to repay the favor!

Re: Rough Running

Great timing with your post. I took the Texas Belle out to the lake two days ago and, even though it ran fine on the muffs, it had great difficulty when I put it in gear.

This was the first time out after a recent carb and lower end rebuild as well. (A rebuild that included catching the boat on fire:mad:) The shop supposedly lake tested the boat also:confused:

The info posted here has given me much info to bring back to the service shop. Thanks to all!
