My 2000 stingray 3.0 I/O Alpha 1 Gen 2 runs good, but when you first start it, it seems to start rough. sometimes it takes a few cranks to get it going, even if you just had her going, and it runs really rough for the first few seconds. If I give it gas when starting I don't have that issue. After a few seconds it runs great. My thought is it might need a carb cleaning. Already replaced the fuel filter, cap, rotor, and plugs.

Re: rough starts

Jay, you might check the operation of the choke. Before starting (cold) give the throttle at least one full push to close the choke,(check it) start it up and watch it as the engine warms up it should open fully when engine warms up.

It seems to start ok when I choke it. My issue is starting is, without choke, engine is still hot because it ran 2 seconds ago.

On the first start of the day, I usually start her up with 1/4 throttle, choked, and it starts well. I leave the throttle on a little till it warms up then I don't need to give it any. From that point on, it will idle fine, run fine, etc. If I shut it off, even if I try to start it minutes later, it has hard starting without choke, and no throttle.

First the choke is fully auomatic - but does need to be adjusted to spec. Same with the idle mixture. Idle mixture needs to be set with the engine fully warmed, many do it cold and call it close enough.

When was the last FULL tune up?
