Re: Rough Water

Murphy says it's going to get rough between point A and point B for you... no matter where you go on the lake!

The main contributor to rough water on any body of water is the weather. check the weather before you go (especially the wind speed forecast) and pay attention to your surroundings and check on the weather if you're able to while you're out. If you ever hear a clap of thunder, hightail it back to the launch area as fast as you can.

Be careful and wear your PFD!

In some areas wind direction plays a role also, depending on local topography. If the wind has a chance to blow across a large wide open area of water chances are better that it'll get rough. If you're relatively close to shore on the upwind side of a lake you've got a better chance of it not getting as bad.

... and current can amplify wind driven waves.

... btw, if you thought the water was rough getting from point A to point B... just wait until you try to get back to point A from point B!

Re: Rough Water

boatingbc, welcome to iboats. Summer time you may be better-off on the north end of the lake around Hope or Sandpoint. I fish the lake quite often, usually at the south end out of Bayview because it's closer to where I live and I've had no problems. Like boating anywhere you need to watch the weather.

You have some big lakes in BC that probably get as rough as Pend Oreille.... Shuswap comes to mind. Good luck
