As many of you know, I rewired the instrument panel and the center console of the Tai-Tai.

I was not present today when our mechanic did the test drive after several months of maintenance (tanks replacement, new floor, etc).

Everything worked ok, except for the RPM gauge, which did a complete turn and stayed fix. Strange, huh? My mechanic said that he reviewed my wiring work and the rpm gauge connections look ok. He will continue troubleshooting tomorrow. He said that maybe the regulator? on the engine is causing the problem?

Well, I don't know what to think. Do you have any clues?

Certainly during the week it is not easy to pay attention to office work and boat at the same time. I will have to wait until saturday to work again on the Tai-Tai.

Re: RPM gauge did the complete turn !

Well, I spent 6-7 hours today working on the boat. Among other things, I was reviewing the wiring of the tachometer to see if I had made a wrong connection. Everything looks ok, so I guess the gauge just broke after receiving the pulse signal, so I think the needle is just free. My suspect is supported by two facts: when you apply power to the instrument, the needle does not move, and doest not return to zero; second, the needle passed over the 7000 rpm mark, and stayed there, but when knocked the glass it tends to fall to the bottom of the gauge.

I will find another tachometer and connect it to see if it works. If it does, time to buy a new tachometer. Should I check something on the outboard????

Another problem: the water pressure gauge had some water INSIDE THE GLASS today. Around 1/8 water level inside. I tilted the instrument to get the water out from the small hole in the rear, and most of it went out. I tasted it, and seemed fresh water. can it be possible to get fresh water all the way up to the instrument when the outboard is flushed with the hose adapter ("ears" flusher) ???

It seems to me that the water pressure gauge is broke and I don't wanna risk having salt water jumping behind the instrument panel. Do you see these instrument to fail often? Should I replace it??
