Well, bad news on the water today. After all that cleaning if you read the post above...i was running fine all day long and all last weekend, no throttle or power issues and nearing the evening on the way back to the launch the motor decided to kick back to 3,000RPM and stay there. Took a few minutes just to get the boat on plane. Engine sounds good still minus the bogging down sound. I'm guessing from others posts I have a 1995 Mariner 60HP 3 cylinder. Does this model come equiped with this RPM limit module. I just got the tech manual in the mail today and was browsing though the trouble shooting and seen this RMP limit module. It says if the engine exceeds the preprogrammed limit, the rpm limit module momentarily shorts the black/yellow lead to ground, limiting engine speed. When this happend i was running aprox 4,000 rpm about 25mph cause the waves with the daughter in the boat i didn't want it to bumpy for her. Does anyone have a picture of this module or is there a way i can unplug a wire to see if this module is just going bad. It can't be from the engine running at to much RPM cause i was just over 1/2 throttle when she decided to bog down. I'm guessing this could be another one of my problems maybe? Does anyone know?

Yours may not have one as it is used mostly on motors with "jet" lower units and commercial units. If you provide serial number it can be checked to see if equiped.

Serial number is 0G012120. If it doesn't have the module, is there a safety for the thermistat that would put the engine into this slower RPMs? I read in the manual you can take it out to check the operation when you heat up a pan of water, but i can't seem to locate where it would be on my motor. There was a brown wire disconnected from the previous owner when i picked up the boat. I plugged it back in and have not tried to unplug it while the engine is running. The engine is not hot after running for a while so i don't think its overheating.

Re: RPM limit Module? 60HP Mariner Outboard

I have a manual that covers my year engine and model...it shows pics of my motor in the manual and i turned the page to the wire diagrams and it shows me a pic with and RPM limit module and one with out. The picture in the diagram shows that the RPM limit module and the module that triggers my alarm look like the same size and shape in the diagram. Could it be possible that the module on my boat is a combination of both of them? I only have one of those modules installed on my boat (that i could see) with the blue wires for the oil tank, tan/blue for the temp switch and purple wire going into the box. I could take a pic of the motor and post it if that would help to get a visual. Its kinda hard to see the module since its behind the black thing with all the wiring running through it. I'm just going crazy cause the engine seems to have a mind of its own. One minute she runs fine at idle then let it cool down a bit then idles at 3,000rpm. It doesn't matter what i do to the mixture screws it still wants to idle the way it wants. The top of my pistons look ok when i look inside and the spark plugs look normal, no burning or eccessive carbon deposits on them. Another thing i've did though is unplug the tan/blue wires and it still seems like its not running right. What wire do i have to disconnect to check if that module is whats causing my problem? All of them? I'm scared to disconnect the blue wires to the oil tank and run the engine. Will it stop oil flow or is that just the oil lvl wires? Everything on the motor is stock from the factory so i'm guessing when i bought the boat it wasn't run in a while and since i been running it almost every weekend constantly some of these parts that are over 10 yrs old are starting to wear out.

http://www.boats.net/parts/search/M...12PD/ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS (50-60)/parts.html

found this diagram...looks exactly like the one on my motor but #41 (speed limiter) I haven't found it on my motor anywhere.

edit again this guys sounds like he was having the same exact problem i was...could mine be the same? Took the fuel pump off though and looked fine to me how do i test a fuel pump besides hookin up pressure gauges to it? I'm going to try to get a hold of this guy. The motor in the pic is exactly like mine!

Thats a oil/temp module....the rev limiter ties into the blk/yel wiring to short cylinders. Check your trigger to see if linkage as came off ...
