I have a 1980 140hp evinrude,I just changed to plugs and wires on it and took it out to test her out,It gets on plane very fast now but when im on plane and cruising the rpm's are getting up to 6,000 and I dont have the throttle all the way down either. Was just wanting to know what rpm's my motor should be running, and what your thoughts were on this.thanks

Re: rpm's?

You should max out at 5,800 RPM unless your engine has been modified. Increase the propeller pitch to bring the RPM down and get out of the hole more quickly.

Absolutely! You're in a great position, sounds like you got it running pretty good. Let's verify the tach just to be on the safe side. Make sure it's on position 6.

If so, let's look for a bigger prop. What have you got now? What condition is it in? Tell us about your rig too.
