Question about the rub rail. My boat is 94 and I have the aluminum channel with rubber insert type of rail. It is dinged and scratched in a few places but nothing worse considering year. My question is on a few areas on the bottom of the rail where the silicone is there are gaps not big but probably 1/4 of a inch. My main concern is of course hull seperation, it is a fiberglass boat, or should I just re-silicone. Anyone who has added new screws can I just pry out the rubber and push back in at the spots with gaps or do you have to pull out the whole channel. Thanks

Re: Rub Rail

some boats are glassed together other are set up where the top deck overlays the hull and then screwed, then the rub rail is installed, when i worked for yar-craft we would put a screw about every foot then install the rail and put a screw in every hole. i would think you would have to pull the rail and remove existing screws before redoing the deck to hull if its separating, and soak the rubber in hot water before reinstalling it in the rail, goes much easyer

Re: Rub Rail

I popped the rubber out where there was the tiny gap. This boat has the screws about every 5in, the two screws in this area were slightly loose, so I tightened em back up and now it looks great. I checked other screws within about 2ft each way and all are tight. Thanks for the replies I figured this was the problem but just in case thought I would ask.
