Trying to find a replacement rubber end cap for my seabird trailer. Realise these guys are no longer around but hoping someone may be able to point me in the right direction.

The tubing measures 3" x 4"

A picture or dimensions of what in the world you are talking about would be handy ;)

If the search fails you might try making your own.

Cut a block of wood slightly smaller than the trailer tube.
Wax the block to prevent sticking.
Dip it a half dozen time in Plasti-Dip Tool Handle Coating. (HD and Lowe's carry it.)
Slide the cap off the wood block and onto the trailer tube. :D

OK - now that you added a picture. My .02 Take off and throw away. Why would you want to limit how easily water can run out of the frame?

Re: Rubber end caps

agreed. nothiing is waterproof. let the trailer drain and dry.

Since I'm a salty, I run the hose into the far end of the tubes and flush them out while on the ramp. In your case, if the other end is blocked, open it, so when parked there won't be any water accumulating at the low end.

I can't tell whether you need to, but look at protecting your wires back there. If you back up against something it will cut the wire.

I'd take it to a welder if you want them plugged. I'd still leave the bottom an 1/2" or so open for fishing new wires and drainage.

Yuup. Thanks. No use putting the bungee cords on unless you want to boat on the highway.

Worst thing you could possibly do. They should be left wide open.

Just for looks, maybe a small hinge screwed on top of square tube with a 1/8" thick 3"X4"aluminum plate swinging down to cover the hole, but would swing open naturally to get rid of water/mud,whatever....Heck, get a patent on it and get rich!;)

If you still have any interest in a replacement part. They use them on winch posts. You can get one here if you like - http://www.easternmarine.com/Boat-Trailer-Winch-Posts-Mounts/ or just google plastic winch post cap and look for another seller.

and they are called that b/c they belong on winch posts, not trailer frames. The fact that you found these (and when I read your post I did a head-smack since my trailers have them) demonstrates an important point about working on boats you bought used: the way it's set up is not necessarilty the way it was made, and not necessarily right.

Some previous owner thouught they looked nice, and did not have the benefit of these forums.

Fastenal had a good selection of caps like that when I searched for my dock posts this spring.
