Rubber on coils scratched or cracked?

Will post pics Fri. 1996 88hp Johnson. All four coils look like a cat gouged out the rubber on the back(the part oppisite the connections) They are scratched and in some places they have very small pieces missing(very small)

age. they get hot, when the motor is running, expect to replace in the future.

Could that be the cause of the weak spark? Have they started to break down to the point they are affecting the performance.

You should consider replacing the igition coils before they damage your powerpack.
