My friends 23' Coronado sailboat came up missing the rudder while docked at the local marina. We cannot find correct dimensions to build another rudder for this model. We need to know the best type of wood to use, height, width, thickness, etc. Please help! Thank you.

Re: rudder problem

Is the rudder on the bottom at the local marina? If you have to fabricate a new one, I would suggest fiberglass and marine epoxy without any wood. As for dimensions if you can't find them in the builders archives, troll around the boatyards and find a 23 blocked up for the winter. Take the dimensions off the existing rudder. Good luck, GH

Yes, it's on the bottom which has about 3 feet of mud. We tried probing all around to no avail. After I looked at the transom, I seen the cudgeons for the pintles totally sheared off at the stainless steel bolts. Good idea about trolling around. We only have one marina and one yacht club in our little town. Perhaps I can get some info from them. I did research on line for similar boats, and found one in Georgia that had the exact boat but they were not exactly forthcoming with any pertinent info.
