Nothing in the book will show me!
This engine was a factory convert from VRO to normal mix. Looking at the front of the carbs when at idle I see gas squirting from what appears to be the mixture adjustment screws. At first I just thought it was a seal but when I removed them I see that both short screws have a hole in the center of them. At higher RMPs no gas coming out, is this the way it is supposed to be?
thanks

If there's no threaded plug over these screws you speak of they are idle air orifices. If fuel is leaking out of them at idle I suspect you have some leaky or stuck needles in carburetor bowls. What happens if you just pump up the fuel primer bulb firm with engine not running and observe these screws?Does fuel leak out? Will the bulb pump up firm and hold?

Hello and thanks,
I haven’t done that yet but I will look for that forcing gas in from the tank. They are not adjustments as far as I can tell, it seems like some of the overflow comes out. The two small screws are only about 1/8 inch long and have a small hole in the center of them. I ran the engine on the water and the top end was perfect, as we did that we looked to see if any gas was pumping out the carbs from the screws, nothing at all. Then at idle it did, not a lot but none the less it was spouting some out. Also at the low rpm it was rough.
It appears that when the baffle for the carbs is on the gas gets recycled back in to the intake, but I’m not sure on that.

Symptom points toward a rich mix at idle or slow speeds.I recommend removing both carbs and giving them a good going over.Pay particular attention to float needles and perform a good cleaning of porting and fixed orifices.Always a good idea to have a manual to walk you through the steps.

Go ahead and perform the fuel primer bulb test and let us know if it leaks by and whether the bulb pumps up firm and holds with a light squeeze.
