'rude' prop prob;

hi, 1987 4hp 2-cylinder, 2-cycle evinrude, model BE4RCUD. serial B1547926. - goes into gear o.k, engine revs but prop won't engage until revs are dropped.-under load, suddenly revs up, with no extra propulsion.suspect splined rubber shock absorber spinning inside hub, any ideas please.

Hi aldras and welcome to iboats.<br /><br />Sounds like a spun hub. That's caused by the rubbber in the hub finally "losing it's grip" so to speak. The rubber splines will get hard and finally let go. Replace the rubber hub and it should be OK.<br /><br />Keep us posted....thanks.

Thanks OBJ, did check my handbook but there is no refernence to problem. I feel sure you are right. Regards, Al.

you can check by marking your prop across the hub and the edge of the prop. give the boat arun, and then check your prop, if the marks don't line up, a spun prop you have.

while you're here, you may want to go to downes marine at breakfast creek, he has alot of part for older OMC/Evinrude/Johnson motors.
