On my second time out with my first boat I tore my prop up pretty bad. Still not sure what I hit. Anyways I attached a few pics and was wondering if there is anyway I can file this one down and use it for a back up. Also can anyone recommend a new one. I have an 06 bayliner 175BR. It has the Mercruiser 3.0
Im assuming this wont be my last!

Meh, that's not tore up, just rough. You want a clean edge on the prop, not a knife edge, so that's the concern with filing it. Also, you want to make sure that the prop is balanced. If it's just a little rough, I think a flat file to take the roughness out would do you fine.

Myself on the other hand have to send my first prop to the repair guy because I picked up a small rock and sent it between the prop and the lower unit. Fortunately the lower unit just got a small ding and the aluminum prop tore a bit.

Always carry a spare prop, even if it is one of the plastic emergency types!

That's hardly hurt at all. If you can smooth it up, smooth it up. If you want it perfect take it to a prop shop. It's very easily repaired.
I have seen props much much worse than that being used every day by some people!

Like I said, Im new to boating...much appreciation though. I hand filed it down to take out all the "teeth", smoothed out all the edges, alcohoed it, then painted it. Came out nice and I plan on using it as my backup. Here i was talking like the thing was shredded.....

My bet, marine in 1975 ;)

Don't worry about it though, the only dumb question/inquiry is the one not asked! I only had wished I had known about Iboats before I bought my current project boat so I'd know what to look for....I'd have probably purchased it anyway, what am I thinking! :D

Hey redfury, or he was born in 1975! That's why I asked if he was active duty, cause that number could mean a lot of things.
But I wouldn't worry about it, Cause I didn't do it! (Chick to Lightning McQueen in "Cars")

Yes, Im active duty....75 represents 1775...(birth date of the Corps) Probably should have kept ya guessing! ;) I am going to buy a new prop today, but everyone I have shown my rework says I can use that one. I am sure I will need two at some point in my new found love of the water.

So I was half right?! Sweet!
Good luck buying your new prop. Do you know what you are getting?

And keep your head down, eyes up, and be safe as you are running Toward the gunfire! I sure would be going the other way, Marine! Thanks for your service.

Jarhead, Looks like you ran aground (you may not have even noticed if in sand of mud), and didn't really hit anything "hard". If its balanced its fine. You really should get a spare prop for safety though. Maybe trade up to stainless? it'll be a little tougher on those bottoms and your performance should improve.
