Hey everyone,
i was wondering if there was a way to get the exhaust a little more rumble out of it? i was looking through the forum and i see everyone talking about a thru hull exhaust. i have no idea what this is. i tried looking for pics but nothing. maybe its not possible on a OMC? i have a 4cly 120hp. i know its not a big block or a v8 but a lil something would be nice.
thanks for your help.

Just forget it, it's not that kind of boat, a big block with headers it will never be. But if you really want it, you can get an electric cut out valve, tee it in with a y pipe and exit the transom above the water line, that way you can have both underwater and or transom exhaust, thats how I would do it.

if you have the selectrim option, your entire engine tilts up and down, so not really possible even if you did invest in a Corsa or Silent Choice system it wouldn't fit.those motors don't sound very good without restriction to the exhaust. I doubt you would like the sound very much if you did achieve it somehow.

I have an OMC 351 Cobra V8, I start it up and sometimes my passengers don't even realize it until I say everyone ready, it's only when I engage drive that they even realize were under power, see I took the opposite approach and did a dura mat insulation and sound deadener job.
I have a 428CID V-8 in my 1970 Cougar, now on that I do have electric cutouts right after the 4" header collectors, so yes old fart does understand what your after, by the way does half a century qualify for old fart?

Come on down to Jersey I'll take ya to the Englishtown raceway, then you will see real power.

Maybe you should strap a jet engine to the back of the boat.

You won't need a out drive.

Yougins think they invented everything.

Little do they know huh?

yeah but being only 23, and if i didn't have any other toys such as a 68 Mustang,4 quads,2 dirt bikes hopped up Cummins truck, jeep, 2 riding lawnmowers, 1 john boat, I'm sure i would of of had a cigarette boat by now. hahaha
Once my retirement funds come in and have my great great grandkids help me like you guys, ill be able to run and have a nice boat like yours. ;)

P.S. this post was just for $h!ts and giggles. no harm played...:D

all and all, OMC seems to be disliked on this forum and free is not free. lol but everyone here is great and thanks for the help. look forward to meeting ya'll out on the water!
Thanks again,
Nick

One point that was not brought up. I do not think that Stringer Intermediate housing wants to be devoid of water that would come out with the exhaust. I might think that even the warm exhaust water helps keep the drive shaft bearings and seals cool. The rear bearing housing has a very small oil resevoir.

7 -1/2 ounces in the intermediate. Not bad really.

Stringers have there good and bad points.

Ouch Bond-o.

Believe it or not, parts are getting easier, used parts that is.

And cheaper. Alot of after market parts also, new.

And it's easier if you know what your doing, doing the upkeep.

Yea i just had a problem, with the drive, but what boat 23 years old will not have a problem with the drive?

Fixed right and i don't mean jury rigged, with new parts like i used, why can't it go another say ten years?

The best part is that i already have it.

I just had a option, where the donor boat i purchased, had a good motor back to the transom assembly.

The upper and lower unit was gone. Cracked and such.

Just the outside everything inside the drives were good.

I could have just got the upper shell and lower shell, and put it together

Maybe i still will cause i kept everything.

That is a alpha one.

I was gonna cut the transom out and redo my transom for the alpha 1, but i chose to leave the stringer.

Wizeone how right you are, the drive depends on the exhaust water also to stay cool.
