What is this I hear Bombardier Recreational Products will discontinue production of their 40 to 225 HP Johnson brand 4-stroke marine engines?

This may be old news but it's the first I heard of it. Are they going to make 2-strokes or will there no longer be Johnson outboards?

Re: Rumors

Since they (BRP) made the formal announcement a couple months ago I'm not sure you could call it a rumor. I'm thinking that would make it a fact.

Heres what they said --

BRP to eliminate 40- through 225-hp Johnson four-strokes
By IBI Magazine/Michael Verdon
Bombardier Recreational Products announced today that for model year 2006 it would be eliminating Johnson brand four-strokes from 40 to 225 horsepower for the North American market. The line of four-strokes are purchased from Suzuki Marine.
The company said in a statement that the expansion of its Evinrude E-TEC line would replace the four-strokes. BRP recently introduced the two-stroke, direct injection E-TECs in 115-hp through 200-hp configurations. By fall 2005, the company will have E-TEC engines from 40 to 250 hp.
"The V4 and V6 constitute an important milestone toward completing our line-up," said Roch Lambert, vice president, general manager, Outboard Marine Engines in a statement. "This achievement allows us to no longer offer, in the North American market, the 40 to 225-hp Johnson four-stroke engines as of 2006.
Lambert said that the Johnson four-stroke line in North America will only include engines from 2.5 to 30 horsepower. The Johnson carbureted two-stroke line-up will include 3.5, 9.9, 15, 90, 115, 150, and 175-hp models.

Re: Rumors

Rumor is exactly what I call a piece of information until I confirm it with a reliable source. That is why I posted the question here.

Something I learned in the USN: assume nothing.

Thanks for you input.

Re: Rumors

I would like to see BRP brand the Evinrudes as Johnsons and have all the same offerings. Johnson is a great name in outboards to put in the back seat.
