I was wondering if it is worth the trouble to get a motor (75hp johnson) that was run without oil and locked up and possibly rebuild it. What damage is possible to motor in this siutation and what would probably have to be done if worth fixing.

Thanks,
Steve

Give us the model number, Steve. Is it a triple looper or a V4?

Squirt some oil into the cylinders and into the crankcase, let her soak a few days, then see if you can free her up by manually turning the flywheel. If you can, then run a compression check.

An engine siezed because of no lubrication can be temporarily locked up and brought back or it can be a few usable parts and a lot of junk.

Let us know what happens and don't forget the model number. :)

You have three options. 1) Install a rebuilt power head, 2) find a used power head or used engine with a bad lower unit, or 3) IF your power head is salvageable, have it rebuilt. #2 is least expensive. #1 and #3 are next but #3 depends on how much damage was done. For certain, boring the engine, all new bearings, probably a new crank, for sure new pistons, rods, rings, and a carb rebuild and required. My vote therefore is that you simply go for the rebuilt power head. That gets you a new engine minus the accessory items like carbs and electrics. So by all means, rebuild the carbs or you risk trashing a brand new power head.
