Alcan has it right. I hope your not using a pail. You need a 50 gal. drum or a keg cooler or a clean garbage can or something of that size.

Whoa -- you have a working antique motor and pressure tank, but you are going to overheat it. The plastic garbage container is a good suggestion. I have one that I've equipped with a plastic thru-hull and cap so I can drain it (also has wheels, which helps a little. Even with a container like that, though, you have to be a little careful not to overdo it. Keep adding water to freshen what is in the container.

sounds like a keeper, with lots of life left. Consider the plastic garbage container idea -- works well for tinkering with the old Evinrude, and gives you an extra can on trash day!

Regards...

will muffs work on these smaller older motors? if so why not just use them. or do i need to pickup a copy of outboards for dummy's?

Well, I need a copy too. I would think the muffs would work if you can cut the flaps to fit. On my '57 Evinrude 7 1/2, the intake is just above the ventilation/cavitation plate and not very accessible. I guess I would remove the cover plate if using a flusher, just to be sure the water would enter easily. But for a little motor, I still prefer a tank.

Gentlemen...what you can't do on muffs is rev the motor very high. with no exhaust backpressure or load on prop you could have a runaway...sometimes you just need to simulate real running conditions to set timing or idle on some motors...just a Thought
