Running and Shifting Outboard out of the water

Guys, I'm trying to diagnose and adjust my linkage cables as I've been having some issues with reverse. Can I hook up the muffs and run it out of the water? I'm not going to open it up and run it wide open but just enough to see if props spin fwd and reverse. Thanks

Maybe remove the prop just to play it safe, otherwise no problem that I'm aware of. Good Luck!

Shouldn't be a problem at all. As you said, you were just going to let it idle. Make sure you maintain a good pee stream, as you may not be concentrating on that. Good luck! :)

Thanks guys but I'm not just keeping it in idle but I'm going to SHIFT it into forward and reverse to see if the props are spinning as they should in direction they should. I have had trouble shifting into reverse while on the water. I read that it might be a linkage adjustment issue that could be corrected.

Yep, that's pretty much what I thought you were up to. Some people don't realize that outboards should not be run much higher than idle when on muffs. Shifting it in and out will not affect anything.
