I've been chasing down a amplifier assembly part no 383607 and coil part no 580730 for an old 1969 evinrude 55hp 3 cylinder with no success until an old bloke told me to run a car coil like the old ones (long cylinder shape) Gt40..has any1 done this and if so could I possibly get a diagram or something please..

Forget the car coil. The car coils weren't made for the CD ignition system you have on that mtr.

Ah yes, the old use a car coil and condenser to replace the amplifier story. It has been tried many times by many people and I have yet to hear anybody say it works well. In theory, it should, but the points dwell is way off for satisfactory operation. Besides, iven if it did work, the points would burn and pit, just like they did in the old cars. Priced the points lately?

EDIT: Amplifier is CDI part number 113-7123, coil is CDI part number 183-2382. Check to see if they are available here at iboats

I found a part thank god but I was told by a boat auto electrician a Bosch canister Coil (str8 12volt coil no resistor with female high tension output, not EFi/electronic) it would work..

Ya itll work, prolly not ,,,too ,,,well .youll be doin maintenace on the points regularly, they will burn out Way too soon ... But it will run , just be sure to include a good kill switch in the power supply wire. Put it before the points. Other than that youll need the matching condensor with the coil. Without it thenpoints will burn up FAST. I used 2 matching coils from an 84 Volvo with the condensor and resistor, HOT PHAT BLUE SPARK,,,,,UNTILL THE BATTERY DIES. U SEE THE AUTO IGNITION RELIES ON BATTERY POWER. Ifnyour outboard doesnt have a set of charge coils under the flywheel ,and a rectifier, and a volyage regulator youll be runnin on battery power only and the Bosch ( :) good ) coil will drain it pretty fast, youll be lucky if it runs for an hour.
Then your ruining your battery unless its a GOODdeep cycle marine. So if you HAVE TO do it to get back down the river and outrun the banjo's... :) ya ok its a emergency stop gap. Otherwise , dont fool your self into thinkin you can rig up some auto ignition on your boat n be scootin around the lake,,,,youll be paddelin home. i know . N it aint fun!.....sorry for the ugly pelling n grammer my tablet is flippin out.

The mtr does have a battery charging system as it's battery cd ignition.
