I've noticed lately that my engine runs hot on muffs with the hose, about 180 degrees, but ok in water, about 140 degrees. Seemed like this started this summer one time when i noticed her getting hot on the hose and saw there wasn't much water coming out of the exhaust, then she made a big spurt of water and steam out the exhaust but continued to run hot. I had the impellor off earlier this year before this happened and it was fine. Could it be anything other then the impeller? The thermostat is also new last year.

Are you getting adequate water from the hose & thru the muffs?
A neighbor once had the same problem & when I went over to check it out for him, some type of insect or spider or something had built a nest in his muffs out of grass & mud & who knows what all else. We had to really work at it to get that junk out of there. It was set up like concrete.
Jim.

Seems like lots of water from the hose, she was idling a bit fast, i turned that down a bit but still hot. she is put away for the winter now. i guess i'll have to check the impeller again in the spring,,,,,

You can take the impeller out and she should not overheat at idle on the hose.

Still - When was the impeller changed?

i bought a used lower leg this summer as the gears in my old one were gone. So i checked the impeller on the lower leg when i got it and it seemed fine. The fins were not bent out of shape and it seemed hardly used, so i put it back together and installed the lower leg. I have the one off my old LL that was only used one season, so I'll probably put that one on her in the spring.
